Pool rules
Pool safety is a serious issue, and the pool rules exist to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
Entering the pool area is strictly prohibited outside of pool opening hours and when no lifeguard is on duty.
Ensure the pool gate is properly closed and locked when leaving the pool area.

Pool repair
- The 2026 pool repair is a three-stage project.
Stage 1: Pool wall repair
Stage 2: Pool deck repair
Stage 3: Pool changeroom/toilet repair - April 13, 2026: DIRA volunteers organized for pool experts to visit the island and the pool. Due to high groundwater levels, the experts advised the Pool Repair Committee to wait for water levels to decrease before emptying the pool and commencing repairs.
- May 11, 2026: Since the closure of the island last season, the DIRA Pool Repair Committee has been working on several aspects of the pool repair project. Of the utmost importance was securing a reputable pool reconstruction company with a local history and a willingness to work on the island. The selected company came out to inspect the site as soon as it was possible, on April 13, before final discussions and signing of the contract. The start date for the repair depends on the localised ground water level. Two pool experts have advised that pressure from ground water, which swells in the springtime, is strong enough to crack the concrete if the pool is empty for prolonged periods. The Committee noted there is ground water in both test holes drilled next to the pool, and it is higher than the pool water level. The river water levels in Lac Saint-Louis, which can affect ground water, are also currently higher than the historical median value according to the Ministère de l’Environnement. The ground water will rise and fall, then eventually remain steady at a lower level in late summer. Therefore the Committee will act responsibly and begin the full repair in mid to late August. A minor repair will allow the pool to open at the usual time in June with the usual pool opening hours.
- August 10, 2026: Delivery of the pool deck pavers – Completed as planned.
- August 13, 2026: Emptying of the pool and storage of equipment – Completed as planned.
- August 19, 2026: Sandblasting of the interior of the pool – Completed as planned.
- August 20, 2026: Repair of the interior of the pool – In progress.

Grant news: DIRA is thrilled to announce we’ve been awarded a grant that will cover close two thirds of our lifeguard staffing budget for 2026. We thank our local Liberal MP, Anju Dhillon and her team who write: “We are very pleased to see DIRA receive this support and contribute to a safe and enjoyable summer for the community. Our office remains closely engaged in the Canada Summer Jobs process each year, working to ensure that strong local initiatives are well supported and that the needs of our community are clearly reflected. It is always encouraging to see organizations like yours benefit from this program.”
The Liberal MP, Anju Dhillon visited the pool on July 15, 2026 to see the impact of the federal grant.
